LASG defends ₦440m SUV purchase for Chief of Staff amid criticism

In the eye of a financial storm, the Lagos State Government staunchly defends its decision to allocate ₦440,750,000 for a bulletproof Lexus LX 600 SUV, destined for the Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

 

The justification comes in response to scrutiny raised by Funso Doherty, the Action Democratic Congress gubernatorial candidate, who questioned the extravagant procurement on the state’s portal. Doherty highlighted that such expenses seem excessive, considering the economic climate and public sentiment.

 

The debate sparked a wave of public outcry, prompting the Lagos State Government to address the concerns on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. In a press release signed by Fatai Onafowote, the Director-General of the Lagos State Procurement Agency, the government contends that the purchase aligns with the prevailing economic conditions in the country.

 

This defense comes months after the appointment of Tayo Ayinde as Chief of Staff by Governor Sanwo-Olu in June.
