Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has marked a remarkable year in 2023, with his chart-topping single ‘Calm Down’ achieving widespread success across multiple countries, solidifying its status as the most significant African musical export.

 

In an unprecedented achievement, Rema has etched his name in history as the first African artist to secure a spot on the prestigious Billboard 2023 end-of-the-year chart. His debut album ‘Raves & Roses’ clinched the impressive position of No. 157, further emphasizing the global impact of African music.

 

Propelled by the massive commercial triumph of ‘Calm Down,’ a collaboration with Selena Gomez, Rema secured the 41st position on Billboard’s 2023 end-of-the-year artist chart. Notably, his collaboration with Gomez reached an impressive No. 3 on the charts and maintained a presence for over a year, setting an unprecedented record for an African artist.

 

In the Afrobeats realm, Rema claimed the second spot for the year, following closely behind Burna Boy, solidifying his standing as one of the genre’s foremost talents.

 

Having previously made history as the youngest African artist to sell out the O2 Arena, Rema received further accolades from Spotify for the monumental achievement of his track ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez, surpassing an extraordinary 1 billion streams on the platform.
