Governor Adeleke announces ₦15,000 wage award for civil servants and ₦10,000 for pensioners

In response to the impact of subsidy removal, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has approved a wage award for civil servants and pensioners, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on residents. The announcement was made through a statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday in Osogbo.*

Governor Adeleke emphasized his commitment to workers’ welfare and the gradual implementation of measures to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal. The governor, marking the first day of his second year in office, reaffirmed a five-point agenda, with workers’ welfare taking precedence.

The approval for the wage award was communicated through a circular issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building. The circular, signed by Mr. Sunday Fadele, a Permanent Secretary in the ministry, outlined a ₦15,000 monthly wage award for active workers and ₦10,000 for pensioners. This relief measure is set to run for six months, commencing from December.

Pulse revealed that according to the circular, the decision followed negotiation meetings and interactions with labor movements and representatives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners. The governor, recognizing the challenges arising from the removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government, deemed it necessary to introduce palliatives to ease the financial strain on workers and pensioners in the state.

Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of workers, assuring that this gesture is part of ongoing efforts to support citizens during challenging times. The governor expressed hope that the wage award would motivate state workers to be more diligent and committed to their duties.

The announcement comes as part of a broader strategy to address the economic implications of subsidy removal and prioritize the well-being of Osun State residents. Governor Adeleke’s administration aims to provide timely and targeted assistance to mitigate the impact of economic reforms on the populace.

The circular concluded by stating that the wage award reflects the governor’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people of Osun State. The governor pledged to continue implementing measures that prioritize the welfare and prosperity of the state’s residents.
