Guinness Nigeria Plc has showcased its steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s healthcare sector with the comprehensive renovation and re-equipping of the Guinness Eye Center at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi Araba, Yaba, Lagos.

Originally handed over to LUTH’s management almost 30 years ago in December 1993, the facility has been a cornerstone in ophthalmic care, serving patients from Nigeria and neighboring countries. The recent commissioning ceremony held on December 14, 2023, wasn’t merely symbolic; it underscored the company’s dedication to ensuring this vital healthcare facility remains a community pillar. Dr. Omobola Johnson, Chairman of the Board at Guinness Nigeria Plc, lauded the clinic’s transformation, emphasizing its role as both a healthcare provider and an educational beacon.

For three decades, the Guinness Eye Clinic has been a beacon of exceptional and affordable eye care. Guinness Nigeria’s consistent commitment, marked by an annual donation of medical equipment exceeding N5 million, reflects an enduring promise to uphold top-tier services. Impressively, the company continues to enhance service quality at the facility.

The impact of this initiative extends beyond patients, recognizing the need for a conducive environment for professionals tackling various eye issues. Guinness Nigeria responded by renovating the offices and workstations of these dedicated professionals, providing them a comfortable workspace to positively impact lives.

Adebayo Alli, Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc, emphasized the pivotal significance of the day, marking an unyielding dedication to Environmental Social and Governance principles and the welfare of local communities. He stated, “The Guinness Eye Center epitomizes our staunch commitment to addressing needs, fostering the vision of a healthier society.”

Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, FAS, Chief Medical Director of LUTH, commended Guinness Nigeria’s remarkable role in advancing healthcare. He recounted the history of the Guinness Eye Centre and acknowledged the consistent support, including an annual grant of N5,000,000 for 28 years, totaling N140,000,000 for equipment support. In 2011, a sum of N3,200,000 was released for general renovation. This year, Guinness Nigeria Plc went above and beyond, committing a total sum of N161,300,000 to the comprehensive renovation of the center, encompassing civil, plumbing, roofing, electrical works, furniture, aluminum works, toilets, water tank construction, and painting.

On behalf of the board of management, staff, and students of LUTH, as well as Nigerians in general, Prof. Adeyemo publicly appreciated Guinness Nigeria Plc’s singular effort as part of their corporate social responsibility to enhance hospital facilities.

The revitalized and upgraded Guinness Eye Centre now stands as an emblem of Guinness Nigeria Plc’s unwavering commitment to prioritize healthcare, emphasizing their dedication to uplifting the well-being of the communities and environments they diligently serve.
