In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at uplifting the socio-economic status of Nigeria’s elderly population, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, has disbursed ₦100,000 each to 250 selected elderly citizens in Rivers. The generous act of empowerment, channeled through the Renewed Hope Initiative, seeks to provide financial support to vulnerable individuals aged 65 and above, in line with President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth.

A symbol of commitment to the Nation’s elders

Represented by Valarie Fubara, the Wife of the Rivers Governor, Senator Remi Tinubu conveyed that this initiative is a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the socio-economic fabric of the nation. The agenda, as articulated by Senator Tinubu, is geared towards supporting the aged and the elderly, enabling them to participate in productive ventures that contribute to the nation’s development.

“This was borne out of the commitment and the determination of the president’s agenda towards supporting the aged and the elderly, to enable them to engage in productive ventures,” she affirmed.

The initiative not only reflects a dedication to the well-being of the elderly but also aims to foster inclusiveness and compassion across the nation. Senator Tinubu emphasized that no one would be left out by the scheme, and the welfare of the aged and elderly citizens would be prioritized in recognition of their significant contributions to the nation.

Promoting inclusiveness and alleviating economic hardship

Valarie Fubara reiterated the scheme’s objective of supporting 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above, emphasizing that it was designed to cushion the economic impact being felt by this demographic.

“This was also to cushion the effect of the economic situation as well as alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by our esteemed elders,” she stated.

The call to action extended beyond financial assistance, with Senator Tinubu urging the beneficiaries to embrace life fully, prioritize their health, nurture their minds, and strengthen their bonds with loved ones and with God.

Moreover, she assured that the young, old, and less privileged would also benefit from economic empowerment initiatives, marking a holistic approach to supporting various segments of society.

A pledge to empower millions and boost agricultural productivity

Senator Tinubu outlined the broader scope of the empowerment initiatives, promising support for millions of families. Additionally, plans for training farmers on accessing fertilizers, seedlings, and equipment were unveiled, aiming to boost agricultural productivity and contribute to the nation’s food security.

“We would empower millions of families, while training would be provided for farmers on how to access fertilisers, seedlings and equipment to boost agricultural productivity,” she affirmed.

State commitment to replicate the renewed hope initiative

Valarie Fubara expressed the commitment of the Rivers State government to replicate the Renewed Hope Initiative, emphasizing its significance to the state governor. The state, she assured, would spare no effort in ensuring the initiative’s success in all aspects.

A cheering demonstration of concern for the elderly

Prof Ngozi Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, hailed the scheme as a cheering demonstration of concern for the elderly in the country. She underscored that the beneficiaries not only received financial grants but were also educated on the importance of regular medical checkups to monitor and maintain their health status.

Beneficiaries speak: A timely and desirable gesture

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, 67-year-old Joseph Ede lauded the initiative of President Bola Tinubu, expressing gratitude for the timely and desirable gesture, particularly considering the current economic challenges in the country.
