EBSU’s Grand Affair: Over 5,000 Fresh Faces Join the Prestigious Ebonyi State University in a Glorious 26th Matriculation Ceremony

Amidst pomp and prestige, the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Abakaliki welcomes over 5,000 new students in its 26th matriculation ceremony, marking the beginning of an academic journey filled with promises of excellence. Prof Chigozie Ogbu, the Vice-Chancellor, applauds the new matriculants while emphasizing the university’s commitment to development and excellence.

The matriculation, held at the institution’s main campus, witnessed the formal induction of 5,000 students into the EBSU community for the 2023/2024 academic session. Prof Ogbu shared that out of the 8,000 candidates who applied for admission, approximately 5,000 were successfully admitted, marking a significant achievement for the fresh faces embarking on their university experience.

In his address, Prof Ogbu conveyed his congratulations to the new students, hailing their milestone of gaining admission into the esteemed university. He highlighted the university’s motto, “Development and Excellence,” underscoring its mission to nurture students for both character development and academic prowess.

“Today, you have officially become a valuable member of the EBSU community, a university whose motto, ‘Development and Excellence,’ defines its mission of nurturing our students to develop worthy character and academic excellence. We welcome you on board and assure you of our commitment to enable you to achieve your educational objective,” Prof Ogbu declared.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the dedication of the academic staff across all faculties to teach and mentor the new students. He encouraged the fresh faces to cooperate with the faculty members, recognizing the synergy required for a successful academic journey.

Prof Ogbu proudly stated EBSU’s standing as a highly-rated university, citing its first-place ranking among State Universities in the South East in international and national rankings. The university holds the sixth position out of 54 State Universities in Nigeria and the 32nd position out of 278 Nigerian Universities.

Recently, EBSU received a Certificate of Recognition from “Study Abroad Aide,” ranking it among the 100 Best Value Universities in Nigeria and within the top 70% globally.

The Vice-Chancellor provided an overview of the university, detailing its 11 faculties and 72 programs across 64 departments. He reminded the students that every admission to EBSU marks the potential for academic excellence and advised them on the importance of diligence and commitment to their studies.

“Whether you end up with first or third class or pass depends on how you apply yourself to your studies. You cannot pass an examination without attending your classes, doing your assignments, and reading your books. If you waste your time socializing or on irrelevant non-academic activities, you will be shortchanging your future. And you will live to regret it for the rest of your life,” Prof Ogbu cautioned.

In addition to academic advice, the Vice-Chancellor issued stern warnings against cultism, examination malpractices, and all forms of anti-social behaviors, including drug abuse and gender-based violence. Prof Ogbu underscored the university’s zero-tolerance policy for such activities and urged students to prioritize their safety and well-being.

The 26th matriculation at EBSU stands as a vibrant commencement of academic endeavors for over 5,000 students, promising a journey marked by academic excellence, personal growth, and a commitment to the university’s values of development and excellence.
