The Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has issued a stern rebuke in response to a viral video depicting a student engaging in a debate using vulgar and violent language. A statement by Malam Jibrin Kodo, Information Officer of the Ministry, described the video as a blatant disregard for the values of respect and decorum that should underpin educational discourse.

The viral video, circulating widely on social media platforms, captured the unsettling spectacle of a student employing inappropriate language during a school debate in Niger State. According to the Ministry, the content of the video suggested that the student had been coached to utilize violence and vulgarity in his presentation—a practice deemed wholly unacceptable and antithetical to the ethos of education.

Expressing concern over the incident, the Ministry underscored the paramount importance of cultivating a positive and respectful learning environment for students, particularly during their formative years. Such incidents not only reflect poorly on individual pupils but also tarnish the reputation of schools and the educational system at large.

The Commissioner and Secondary Education for Basic and Secindary Education in the state, Hadiza Mohammed, has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Furthermore, the Ministry has vowed to mete out appropriate disciplinary measures against those found complicit in coaching the student to use such reprehensible language.

Emphasising the imperative of instilling good conduct among students, both within and beyond the confines of the classroom, the Ministry called upon all schools to reinforce the values of respect, integrity, and responsible citizenship. It reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding high standards of behaviour and academic excellence, stressing that any transgression of these principles would not be countenanced.
