Rema’s ‘Raves & Roses’ achieves Diamond Certification in France, sets new records in Afrobeats

In a monumental achievement for Nigerian music, Rema’s debut album ‘Raves & Roses’ has attained diamond certification from SNEP (Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique), France’s official chart organisation.

The announcement came via SNEP’s official Instagram account on March 25, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the album, which has now exceeded 500,000 units in sales.

‘Raves & Roses,’ which made its debut in March 2022, captivated audiences worldwide following the release of hit singles ‘Soundgasm’ and ‘Calm Down.’ The album’s meteoric rise to success can be attributed in large part to the groundbreaking acclaim garnered by ‘Calm Down,’ a track that has redefined the landscape of Afrobeats music.

The remix of ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez, propelled the song to unprecedented global acclaim, solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon. Notably, ‘Calm Down’ holds the distinction of being the first and only Afrobeats song to amass over 1 billion streams on Spotify, a feat that underscores its unparalleled popularity on the world stage. The accompanying music video for ‘Calm Down’ has also shattered records, surpassing 830 million views on YouTube—a milestone that cements its status as the highest-viewed Nigerian music video on the platform. Additionally, ‘Calm Down’ has left an indelible mark on the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 3 and remained on the chart for over 52 weeks, making it the highest and longest-charting Nigerian song in the history of the prestigious chart.

The immense success of ‘Calm Down’ extends beyond streaming and chart performance, as the track has now attained diamond certification in France, signifying its immense popularity and cultural impact in the European market. In achieving this accolade, ‘Calm Down’ joins the ranks of other esteemed Afrobeats records, including Burna Boy’s ‘On The Low’ and ‘Last Last,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Oxlade’s ‘Kulosa,’ and CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti.’

With the diamond certification of ‘Raves & Roses’ by SNEP, Rema solidifies his status as one of Nigeria’s most promising musical talents, showcasing the global appeal and influence of Afrobeats music. The album’s attainment of France’s highest certification accolade follows in the footsteps of Burna Boy’s critically acclaimed ‘African Giant,’ marking only the second Nigerian album to achieve such recognition in the French market.
