Lagos seals up supermarket for defying ban on styrofoam

The Lagos state government on Friday sealed up a supermarket for flouting the ban on the use of styrofoam. 

Kunle Adeshina, director of public affairs at the state’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, made this known via his X handle. 

He said the action follows a request from the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency.

“Following a request from L/S Consumer Protection Agency, operatives of the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance dept of MOE&WR on Friday undertook an enforcement action to seal up Astoria Supermarket, Parkview, Ikoyi for defying the ban on use of Styrofoam in the Supermarket,” Mr Adeshina posted. 

The Lagos State government had in January banned the usage and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the state with immediate effect.

The state said the development will help curb the harmful effects of single-use plastics on the environment.
