Delta communities count gains of pipeline protection contract, seek extension

Some communities hosting Nigeria’s oil pipeline infrastructure in Delta State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company not to tamper with the pipeline protection framework that is currently in place in the area.

Some of the community members who spoke with journalists during a recent protest said the current arrangement has brought peace and development to their communities. They say it has also reduced incidents of illegal oil bunkering and vandalisation of critical national assets being hosted in the area.

They were joined by some environmental experts and officials of Delta State who supported the community members saying that the current peaceful environment in the area has contributed greatly to the state becoming Nigeria’s number one oil producing State.
