President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to return to Abuja on Sunday, concluding his official visits to China and the United Kingdom.

During his time in China, President Tinubu was warmly received by President Xi Jinping, with a 21-gun salute and a guard of honor. The two leaders signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

“Our discussions with President Jinping were fruitful, and the MOUs signed will promote cooperation in key areas,” President Tinubu said. “We’re committed to jointly promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, nuclear energy, and human resource development,” Bayo Onanuga said in a press statement issued on Sunday.

The signed MOUs include:

– Cooperation Plan between Nigeria and China
– Media Exchange and Cooperation
– Nigeria Television Authority and China Media Group partnership
– Lagos Green rail line construction with China Harbour Engineering Company
– $1 billion iron ore-to-steel project in Kogi State with Sinomach-He

President Tinubu also addressed the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, emphasizing multilateralism and cooperation for global peace.

“As chairman of ECOWAS, I stressed the importance of collective action for international peace,” President Tinubu said. “Our reforms aim to bring Nigeria to a level of development similar to China’s, with good roads, constant power, and quality education.”

Before departing China, President Tinubu met with Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, China chapter, and later stopped in London, where he met with King Charles III to discuss climate change and action.

“We had productive discussions on climate change, and I reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to addressing this global challenge,” President Tinubu said.

President Tinubu’s return to Abuja marks the end of his successful trips, which aimed to strengthen Nigeria’s international relationships and attract investments.

“President Tinubu’s visits to China and the UK demonstrate his commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and global cooperation,” said Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
