Bishop Oyedepo slams critics over pastors’ retirement

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, has delivered a sharp response to critics questioning the retirement of two high-ranking church officials, Bishops Thomas Aremu and David Abioye. Speaking at a valedictory service for Bishop Aremu on October 15 at Winners Chapel in Orita Bashorun, Oyedepo advised detractors to “mind their business.”

The church’s decision to retire Aremu and Abioye, who had each served for over three decades, sparked debate among Nigerians, particularly online. Some questioned the timing and rationale behind the move. However, Oyedepo defended the decision, pointing to established church policies.

“The Administrative Policy of 1998 was reviewed in 2001, and The Mandate of 2012 was revised in 2024,” Oyedepo explained, emphasizing that the church follows divine principles in its operations. “It is wisdom to learn what is working and find out what makes it work. Everything works here,” he said.

Referencing Genesis 49:26, Oyedepo reminded his audience that pastors hold no personal inheritance in their ministry roles. He encouraged the retiring bishops to focus on spiritual growth and remain connected to the church’s vision, stating, “There’s no such thing as the best today or tomorrow; what matters is your pursuit of God.”

He concluded his remarks by dismissing the criticisms as “baseless” and urged Bishop Aremu to ignore the distractions, reaffirming his dedication to faith and purpose.
