Governor Idris allocates ₦241 million for gratuity payments to retired civil servants in Kebbi State
In a move aimed at fulfilling campaign promises and prioritizing the welfare of retired civil servants, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the release of ₦241 million for the payment of gratuities to 91 retirees who concluded their service in November and December 2023.
The announcement of this approval came through a statement issued by the Head of Service in Kebbi State, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba-Bena, on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi. This significant allocation underscores the state government’s commitment to honoring its obligations to former employees and ensuring their financial security post-retirement.
According to Garba-Bena, the 91 retirees were meticulously verified out of a total of 96 potential beneficiaries. Their names were submitted to a committee tasked with overseeing the disbursement of gratuity or death benefits within the state, local government councils, and local government education authorities. This meticulous verification process underscores the government’s dedication to transparency and accountability in the distribution of retirement benefits.
Garba-Bena reiterated that Governor Idris had pledged to civil servants during his campaign that his administration would prioritize timely payment of retirement entitlements, thereby alleviating concerns about pension arrears and gratuity delays.
NAN reports that in addition to the gratuity payments, Governor Idris also approved the release of ₦34 million to address disparities in pension adjustments for retirees who concluded their service in 2012 and 2013. This decision follows recommendations made by a committee established by the governor to assess and verify claims made by retired workers regarding discrepancies in their pension entitlements.
The allocation of funds for pension adjustments reflects the state government’s commitment to upholding fairness and equity in the retirement benefits system. By addressing disparities in pension payments, the government seeks to ensure that retirees receive their rightful entitlements and are not subjected to financial hardship during their post-service years.
Governor Idris’s proactive approach to addressing pension-related issues underscores his administration’s dedication to promoting the welfare and well-being of civil servants, both during their active service and in retirement. By fulfilling promises made to retirees and taking concrete steps to address pension discrepancies, the governor demonstrates leadership and empathy towards those who have dedicated their careers to public service.
The approval of ₦241 million for gratuity payments and ₦34 million for pension adjustments reaffirms Governor Idris’s commitment to prudent financial management and accountability in governance. It also serves as a testament to his administration’s unwavering resolve to prioritize the needs of retired civil servants and ensure their dignified livelihoods in their post-service years.
In conclusion, Governor Nasir Idris’s decision to allocate substantial funds for gratuity payments and pension adjustments reflects his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations to retired civil servants and promoting social justice within the public service sector. As Kebbi State continues on its path towards sustainable development and inclusive growth, the welfare and security of its retired workforce remain paramount, and Governor Idris’s actions underscore his unwavering dedication to this cause.
