The Jigawa Police Command said that five persons have died in a boat accident in Jigawa state.
Lawan Shiisu, the command’s spokesperson, said the accident occurred on Thursday at Nahuce in Taure local government area of the state.
He said the command has intensified the search effort to rescue 15 missing passengers.
“Today, at about 1200hrs, information from a reliable source revealed that a canoe conveying 20 passengers to cross over Gamoda River at Nahuce village capsized,” he said.
Upon the receipt of the report, a team of policemen, in collaboration with local divers and good Samaritans, raced to the scene for a rescue mission.
“The deceased passengers are Abdurra’uf Mohammed, 15, Suleman Ali, 20, Shafiu Mohammed, 25, Ado Nafance, 7, and Alasan Mohmmed, 16, all from Taura LGA.”
Ahmadu Abdullahi, the state’s police commissioner, offered condolences, while seeking divine comfort for the families of the victims and eternal rest for the deceased.
