Lagos Police arrest two in connection with death of truck driver

The Lagos state Police command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a truck driver identified as Toyeeb who was allegedly killed around the Mile Two area of the state which led to a protest on Tuesday.

 

 

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin who confirmed the incident said the deceased was not murdered by officials of the Environmental and Special Offences Unit Taskforce as alleged.

 

Hundeyin added that though a truck belonging to one of the drivers in the area has been recovered and brought to the police station, investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the true circumstances that led to the death of the driver.

 

The truck allegedly traced to the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency was brought to the police station on Wednesday.

 

A protest had begun early Tuesday after truck drivers around Mile two axis of the state burnt tyres and barricaded the area following the death of Toyeeb whom they alleged was killed by officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit.

 

The driver who is said to have been killed at midnight by the taskforce during an illegal patrol in the area , allegedly hijacked the truck that was later recovered from the office of LASTMA.
