18 persons have been killed in an accident involving a truck conveying passengers and cattle from Illela in Sokoto State enroute Lagos.
The accident, which occurred at Malisa junction of Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi state, also resulted in injuries for not less than forty persons.
The spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the accident. Abubakar said the driver of the truck with Reg. No. SRP 442 XA, Niger State, conveying passengers and cows from Illela to Lagos lost control at Malisa junction whuch caused the truck to fall. He said sixteen cows were also lost in the accident.
According to him, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police Ahmed Kontagora visit the scene of the accident to witness the evacuation of victims to Gwandu General Hospital where eighteen of the victims were confirmed dead by the medical director.
He said forty other victims that sustained different degrees of injuries are responding to treatment in the same hospital.
