Lagos authorities suspend ferry services at Ikorodu terminal due to water hyacinth

In response to the escalating challenge posed by water hyacinth obstructing ferry navigation along the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the temporary suspension of ferry operations at the Ikorodu Terminal until further notice.

The authorities have called for public cooperation and understanding during this period of closure. For safety reasons, passengers and operators have been advised against attempting access or utilizing the waterways through the Ikorodu Terminal.

LASWA said it is collaborating with EQUUS to swiftly address the issue of water hyacinth along the Ikorodu Terminal. It also said immediate measures have been taken to open the Ibeshe Terminal and temporarily utilize the Majidun Jetty, thanks to cooperation with the Nigerian Navy and the Association of Boat Operators Ikorodu Division. These locations are designated as alternative terminals during the temporary closure of the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal.

Additionally, LASWA said it plans to open another jetty in the Ikorodu axis before the end of the year, further expanding options for commuters and operators.
