Bayelsa Gov. election: INEC official kidnapped, result sheets missing in boat mishap

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa State has disclosed that a boat transporting officials and election materials capsized on its way to Registration Area-17, Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area on Friday.

INEC made known, Friday in a press statement by Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of Department for Voter Education and Publicity, where it was revealed that although no lives were lost, election results and officials’ belongings, including luggage and power banks, are missing.

The affected Registration Areas had 5,368 registered voters, with 5,311 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected.

Additionally, INEC revealed the abduction of the SPO assigned to Registration Area-06, Ossioma, Sagbama Local Government Area, while waiting to board a boat at Amassoma Jetty.

INEC assured the public of a new election in the affected areas, and said there are ongoing efforts by security agencies to secure the release of the abducted SPO and bring the perpetrators to justice.
