Traditional rulers laud INEC for smooth conduct of Kogi Governorship poll

The Kogi Traditional Council of Chiefs has showered praise on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its flawless handling of the November 11 governorship election, hailing it as a process that was free, fair, and credible.

 

During a visit to Governor Yahaya Bello at his GRA residence in Okene on Wednesday, the Attah Igala and President of the Council, His Royal Majesty Matthew Alaji-Opaluwa, expressed gratitude for the hitch-free election. He led a delegation of the council to celebrate with the governor and the governor-elect, Alhaji Usman Ododo, applauding the victory and the peaceful conduct of the electoral exercise.

 

Represented by the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, Alaji-Opaluwa mentioned that the council, in pre-election meetings with stakeholders, emphasized the importance of cautioning against fake news and the necessity for a peaceful election. The success of these efforts was evident in the smooth electoral process.

 

Owoniyi emphasized the unity of the people of Okunland in their resolve to elect a governor who would build on the achievements of Governor Bello. He urged the governor to continue strengthening the bond among the state’s residents.

 

Commending Governor Bello for fostering peace and unity since assuming leadership, Owoniyi highlighted the need for collaboration among stakeholders for the overall interest of the state. In response, Governor Bello expressed gratitude for the traditional rulers’ prayers and their significant roles in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election.

 

The governor stressed the importance of post-election collaboration among stakeholders, emphasizing that while politics concludes after the election, development and good governance must persist. Bello underscored the need for inclusive governance, ensuring every part of the state feels the impact, irrespective of political affiliations.

 

INEC had declared Alhaji Usman Ododo as the winner of the election, securing the highest number of lawful votes at 446,237, surpassing other candidates.
