Governor Fubara stands firm: vows not to yield to intimidation in defense of rivers state mandate

In a resolute address during the 115 and 116 combined Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Governor Siminalayi Fubara made it clear that he will not succumb to intimidation or blackmail, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding the mandate bestowed upon him by the people of Rivers State.

On Thursday, December 7, 2023, Governor Fubara declared the meeting open in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the need for unity and resilience in the face of challenging times. Addressing a backdrop of recent political conflicts with his former ally turned adversary, Nyesom Wike, Fubara sought to reassure the people of Rivers State that his administration remains dedicated to protecting the state and advancing its progress.

“Although these are trying times, let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend, and advance it as the governor. I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail, and deliberate sabotage,” declared Governor Fubara.

The political conflict between Fubara and Wike, his former principal, has added complexity to the governor’s leadership. However, Fubara stood firm, asserting that needless crises would not distract his administration from the critical task of governing and improving the lives of the people.

“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace, as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis,” he affirmed.

Amidst the political turmoil, Fubara seized the opportunity to outline his administration’s agenda for the state, assuring the people of drastic measures to enhance education, healthcare, and social services. Additionally, he pledged to unlock the entrepreneurial spirit among the state’s unemployed youths through initiatives focused on skills development, entrepreneurship training, and strategic investments in commercial agriculture.

As Governor Fubara addressed the traditional rulers, he stressed the importance of their role in maintaining the integrity of their positions. Encouraging them to uphold honesty and speak truth to power, he warned against compromising their legitimacy and authority before the people.

The governor’s unwavering stance in the face of political challenges sends a strong message to the people of Rivers State. Fubara’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the citizens, despite internal political conflicts, positions him as a leader determined to navigate the turbulent waters of governance while staying true to the mandate entrusted to him.

As the political landscape in Rivers State continues to evolve, Governor Fubara’s assurance and dedication will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of the state’s future, defining whether it emerges from this period of turbulence stronger and more resilient.
