Breaking: Supreme Court upholds Abba Yusuf's election as Kano State Governor

The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the governor of Kano State after setting aside an Appeal Court ruling earlier sacking him.

 

The judgement read by Justice John Okoro, said all the ballot papers issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC), during the election are restored including the disputed 165, 616 ballot papers which led to the nullification of Yusuf’s election by the Appeal Court, a decision which the apex court frowned at.

 

The Supreme Court also dismissed the prayer seeking to declare Abba Yusuf’s election invalid because of the process of his nomination by the NNPP. The Court held that the nomination and sponsorship of a candidate for an election are the exclusive preserve of the political party and not a matter for an outsider to pry into.

 

It therefore, held that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has no business in questioning Yusuf’s membership of the NNPP.
