Egypt Beat Burkina Faso, Algeria Lose At Home To Guinea

Egypt maintained their one hundred percent record in the 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso, but Algeria were beaten at home by Guinea.

Jordan Ayew scored an injury-time goal for Ghana, who came from behind to earn a crucial 2-1 victory in Mali.

Elsewhere Senegal, were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in Diamniadio in what was Aliou Cisse’s 100th game in charge of the Teranga Lions.

There were also wins for Benin Republic, Libya, Malawi and Sudan, while former Fulham assistant coach Luis Boa Morte began his role as coach of Guinea-Bissau with a goalless draw at home against Ethiopia.

All the countries that played on Thursday will be in action again before the middle of next week, when the World Cup qualifiers on the continent will stop until March next year.

Africa has been guaranteed nine places at the 2026 world cup finals holding in Canada, Mexico and the United States, with all group winners qualifing for the tournament.
