President Muhammadu Buhari has extended condolences to the governments and people of Turkey and Syria where more than 4, 900 persons have been confirmed dead due to earthquakes.
A second earthquake of 7.6 magnitude occurred in southern Turkey on Monday, within 12 hours of a first massive quake that already claimed hundreds of Turkish and Syrian lives.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the event which toppled not less than 2, 818 buildings as the “biggest disaster” since the 1939 Erzincan earthquake.
The Nigerian leader has joined the list of global leaders pledging support for Turkey and Syria at this difficult moment.
A statement from Buhari’s media office, said: “The President wishes those injured a speedy recovery and assures that the prayers and thoughts of Nigerians are with the many affected by this severe disaster and its aftershocks.”
“As a steadfast friend to Turkey and Syria, … Nigeria is ready to offer its full support in any way possible”, the statement further said.
