Cash scarcity protest rocks Benin City

Residents of Benin City in Edo State are protesting scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes and rejection of the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes by traders in the state

From New Benin, to Akpakpava, Oliha market, TV road, Upper Siluko, the story is the same as angry youths and women took to the streets lamenting the hardship occasioned by the scarcity and inability of banks to dispense cash. They said they are unable to meet their daily needs as a result of the development.

The angry protesters have vandalised some bank property including those belonging to First Bank, and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, at Ring Road in Benin City. Although they were repelled by the security personnel stationed at the CBN building.
