Court grants Sirika, daughter, others N100m bail each

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦100m bail each to a former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika, his daughter and two others.

They are standing trial for over a N2.7billion contract fraud allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them after it was read to them.

The former minister, his daughter, one Jalal Hamma and Al-Duraq Investment Limited are facing a five-count charge before Justice Sylvanus Orji.

Part of the charges against Mr Sirika is the allegation of conferring unfair advantage on Al-Duraq Investment Limited, whose alter ego are Fatima and Jalal when he was serving as a minister.

According to the court, they are also to provide two sureties who must have landed properties in Abuja. 

The sureties, the court said, must also be responsible citizens.

The sureties must depose to an affidavit of means. The court also restricted the defendants from traveling abroad without its permission.

The defendants will be remanded in prison pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions,” the Nation newspaper reported.
