In a dramatic turn of events in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has sworn in Omobayo Godwins, a 38-year-old engineer, as his deputy following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu. The ceremony, held at the Edo State Government House in Benin City on Monday, April 8, 2024, marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

Omobayo, hailing from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in the Edo North Senatorial District, shares his hometown with the recently ousted deputy governor. Born on July 19, 1986, Omobayo brings a wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry to his new role.

His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, coupled with a Master’s in Public Administration from the esteemed University of Benin. Omobayo is not only a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers but also holds accreditation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.

With a distinguished career as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, Omobayo has honed his skills in the South-South region. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is actively engaged in local politics within his community, showcasing his commitment to public service.
