The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested an Operations Manager of a commercial bank in Abuja’s Central Area for refusing to load the bank’s Automated Teller Machines, (ATMs) despite having 29 million Naira of the redesigned Naira notes in the vaults.

Before he was taken away for further questioning, the EFCC Operatives ordered that ATMs be loaded with the new notes and the payment of the stipulated amount across the counter to the delight of customers who had spent hours on queues without getting the new notes.

EFCC said in a statement that the discovery indicated sabotage of the Government’s Monetary Policy by some banks. The anti graft commission said it will continue with its ongoing surveillance and visit to banks across the country to access their vaults and verify whether or not they are deliberately refusing to dispense the redesigned Naira notes.

EFCC said more than five bank branches were covered on Monday by the operatives in Abuja with similar exercises ongoing at its Zonal Commands across the country.

The Commission called on Nigerians who are finding it difficult to access their money at any bank and suspect foul play to contact it for immediate intervention.
