Governor Abiodun launches ₦10,000 cash awards for Ogun State school students

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at alleviating financial burdens on parents and guardians, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has commenced the distribution of ₦10,000 cash awards to 100,000 primary and secondary school students across 2,000 public schools in the state. The move underscores the government’s commitment to supporting education and providing relief to families grappling with economic challenges.

According to a statement issued by Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abiodun, the cash awards represent a fulfillment of the governor’s promise to assist indigent pupils and students in the state’s education system. Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Education in Ogun State, emphasized that the initiative was designed to provide immediate relief to families amid the prevailing economic conditions in the country.

“The governor had promised to pay ₦10,000 to indigent pupils and students in the state’s primary and secondary schools,” stated Adeniran, underscoring Governor Abiodun’s commitment to prioritizing education and welfare initiatives.

Commissioner Arigbabu, who supervised the disbursement of funds at several schools in Abeokuta, reiterated the government’s resolve to support families grappling with financial constraints. He highlighted the significance of the cash awards in providing much-needed relief to parents and guardians, particularly in meeting the educational needs of their children.

“The money is meant to provide succor to pupils and their parents. In view of the economic realities in the country, the governor decided to provide succor to the people of the state using a set of multiple approaches to achieve this,” remarked Arigbabu.

The Commissioner further elaborated on the logistics of the disbursement process, noting that the funds would be channeled through parents of students enrolled in public primary and secondary schools. Given the age of the beneficiaries, who may not have individual bank accounts, the decision to transfer the funds directly to parents ensures swift access to financial assistance.

“As we meet and give the parents the governor’s message, they are receiving the alerts for payment. The governor’s gesture is to support the parents in meeting their children’s needs,” affirmed Arigbabu, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to education and financial support for all students.

In addition to the cash awards for primary and secondary school students, Commissioner Arigbabu revealed that 50,000 students of Ogun origin enrolled in both public and private tertiary institutions would also benefit from the government’s financial assistance program, receiving ₦50,000 each.

The distribution of cash awards represents a significant step towards promoting inclusive education and addressing socio-economic disparities among students in Ogun State. By prioritizing financial assistance to students from vulnerable backgrounds, Governor Abiodun’s administration is taking proactive measures to enhance access to quality education and foster social mobility.

As schools across Ogun State welcome this unprecedented initiative, students and parents alike express gratitude for the government’s commitment to supporting education and uplifting communities. With the launch of the cash awards program, Governor Abiodun reaffirms his administration’s unwavering dedication to building a brighter future for the youth of Ogun State.
