The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, on Friday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

It was the first time the governor was meeting the president since his election as governor on July 16, 2022 and his subsequent swearing in in November.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the closed door meeting, the former Osun West senator praised Buhari for his efforts at deepening Nigeria’s democracy by signing the 2022 Electoral Act.

He said he decided to pay a visit to the president to express solidarity to him for such gesture which he said paved the way for him to emerge winner in the July governorship contest and has also earned praises of the international community.

Adeleke, of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, defeated incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress to emerge winner of the Osun governorship election in July.

He scored a total of 403, 371 votes to defeat Oyetola who got a total of 375, 027 as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission the day after the election.
