Oyo Police parade suspected killers of U.S.-based hotelier Gbenga Owolabi

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected killers of a U.S.-based Ogbomoso-born hotelier, Gbenga Owolabi, who was killed by his abductors in alongside a final year student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Rachael Opadele  in August this year.

The paraded suspects were among 13 others paraded at the state police command, Eleyele, Ibadan on Thursday.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams who spoke through the command’s spokesperson,  Olawale Osifeso, said the suspects being paraded also included those who killed a police Inspector and kidnapped a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Adigun Agbaje, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Owolabi and Opadele were killed despite the payment of ransom to the kidnappers in August, a development that generated outrage from Nigerians who expressed serious worries over the state security of the citizen.

Among those paraded by the police on Thursday were also suspects involved in other criminal activities including armed robbery, burglary, car theft and rape.The police commissioner said the sucesses recorded by the command was made possible through the full adoption of a robust community policing strategy coupled with smart inter-Agency collaboration and promised to adequately secure the citizenry before, during and after the yuletide celebrations. He called for the support of the people to aid crime fighting in the state.
