President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Kekere-Ekun would be the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria if the Senate confirms her appointment.
The new acting Chief Justice took the oath of office and signed the oath register at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, on Friday.
Kekere-Ekun succeeds retired Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who assumed office on June 27, 2022, and retired from office after attaining the mandatory age of 70 years.
She was born in the United Kingdom, on 7 May 1958.
Her parents, both from Lagos State, Nigeria, have deeply influenced her life. She is the eldest of eleven siblings.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Supreme Court Justices, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives leader Prof. Julius Ihonbvere, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the outgoing CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Also in attendance were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Presidential Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
