Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described the ruling of the state election petition tribunal nullifying his victory in the July 16, 2022 governorship election as a a miscarriage of justice.
Adeleke, in a state broadcast on Ftiday faulted the resolution of the over-voting question resolved by the tribunal in favour of Adegboyage Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress calling it “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters”.
He called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while his legal team perfects the process of appealing the ruling, insisting that he remains the rightful winner of the July 16 election.
He said: “I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate”.
The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had earlier in the day in its split ruling of two to one, ruled that Adegboyega Oyetola of APC and not Ademola Adeleke of the PDP won the July 16, 2022 election.
The tribunal also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and reissue to Oyetola.
