Niger State renames Minna Airport to honor President Tinubu ahead of state visit

In a bold move, the Niger State Government has decided to rename the Abubakar Imam Kagara International Airport to Bola Tinubu International Airport, Minna, in anticipation of the forthcoming state visit by President Tinubu.

Speaking to reporters at the Government House in Minna on Sunday, Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Aminu Suleman-Takuma, revealed the decision, citing the President’s significant support for the state.

Representing the Commissioner, Special Adviser to the Governor on Governance and Reform, Dr. Isah Adamu, highlighted the state’s readiness to welcome the nation’s leader.

The renaming of the airport serves as a testament to President Tinubu’s contributions to the development of Niger State, as stated by Suleman-Takuma.

Furthermore, the President is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the new Hajj Terminal in Minna during his visit, adding another milestone to his itinerary.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman, assured the public that preparations were in full swing to ensure a seamless reception for the President in Minna.

She revealed that President Tinubu would inaugurate the revamped and upgraded terminal at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, which, although originally a federal project, was completed by the state government due to delays.

The remodelled terminal, now ready for commissioning, is poised to serve as a viable alternative to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, given its strategic proximity to the nation’s capital.

NAN reports that with meticulous planning and coordination, Mamman affirmed that the state was geared up for a successful and glitch-free event.

Adding to the roster of initiatives, Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Salihu Bosso, disclosed the commissioning of state-of-the-art agricultural mechanization equipment procured by the government.

Highlighting the importance of these tools in achieving food security goals, Bosso emphasized their demonstration at the Airport City Free Agro Processing Zone, showcasing the state’s commitment to agricultural advancement.

With these concerted efforts under the Bago-led administration, particularly in agriculture, Niger State aims to emerge as the agricultural epicenter of Nigeria, marking a significant stride towards economic prosperity and self-sufficiency.
