Coroner Inquest into death of Chrisland school girl begins April 4

The Coroner Inquest set up to ascertain the cause of death of twelve-year-old student of Chrisland School, Ikeja Lagos, Whitney Adeniran who died on February nine has been fixed for April fourth.

Olabisi Fajana of the Magistrate court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, gave the date after listening to submissions of all counsel who appeared before the court.

Counsel to the deceased family, Femi Falana, (SAN), told the court that they have two witnesses ready to testify during the inquest, adding that they were unable to file a witness statement as instructed as the magistrate registry refused to process the enrolling of the witness statement.

Counsel for Chrisland School, Olukayode Enitan (SAN), also told the court that he has about eight witnesses who will also be testifying in the matter and requested that access be granted them to samples and materials for the conduct of an independent investigation on the autopsy report.

Falana in response told the court that they have not been served, adding that the autopsy of the deceased was done in the presence of the school representatives and other concerned parties.

Magistrate Fajana directed the defense counsel to file his application through the normal channel to allow the prosecution team respond to it.

Whitney Adeniran died during an inter house sports competition organised by Chrisland School at Agege stadium.

Autopsy conducted revealed that the deceased died of electrocution and Asphyxia.

Magistrate Olabisi Fajana adjourned the case to the fourth of April for the commencement of trial.
