Hours after the Department of State Services said the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele was not in its custody, the agency has now confirmed that it has arrested Mr Emefiele.
Network8tvnews reports that the DSS had in a terse message on its official Twitter handle earlier on Saturday said “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
But in a statement in the afternoon of the same day, the DSS confirmed Emefiele’s arrest cautioning the media on how it reports the situation.
The statement signed by Peter Afunnaya, DSS’ Public Relations Officer, said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.
“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
