Visa ban on Nigerians lifted as Tinubu meets with UAE leader

President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi where a couple of agreements were reached between tye two leaders.

One of the decisions is the lifting of visa ban on Nigerian travelers by the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

Apart from the review of the visa policy, other key outcomes of the meeting include the immediate resumption of flight services by Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines to and from Nigeria and the establishment of a framework for significant investments in Nigeria’s economy across various sectors including defense and agriculture, by the invest arm of the UAE government.

According to a statement by President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, the resumption of of flight services does not require any immediate financial contributions from the Nigerian government.

According to Ngelale, a new foreign exchange liquidity program is also in the works between the two governments.

UAE imposed a blanket visa ban on Nigerians last October while Emirates Airlines suspended flight operations to Nigeria in November 2022 owing to inability to repatriate some of its trapped funds in the West African country.
